Travels, by Michael Crichton                                                                       ***

I'm sure virtually all of you have had some access to Michael Crichton in your lifetime.  Whether through books, movies or TV, he has been and integral part of popular culture for the last 25 years.  When I was a kid I really liked the movie Coma, even though I didn't understand all of it and I've followed him through Westworld, Jurassic Park, Timeline and right up to now with ER.  He has become a respected voice of reason and a type of go-between with science, government and entertainment.
I was fairly sure that any autobiographical material of his would be interesting and this book doesn't disappoint.  The first few chapters deal with his medical school days, of which he has a very interesting perspective.  He then takes you along with him all over the world, from climbing Kilaminjaro to swimming with sharks in the South Pacific.  The only part that gets tedious to me is his time spent in various "finding yourself" camps and seminars as well as his Southern California "mushrooms and astral planes" phases.
Otherwise, I strongly recommend this book.  It's almost as much fun as Congo.
