The Rocket That Fell to Earth, Jeff Pearlman *** So, Pearlman is back at it again, bringing us tales of another bad-boy athlete. He has a way of seeking out the troublemakers and pulling a bunch of juicy information out of others in the sport. This time his sights were on the most dynamic pitcher of the last 30 years, Roger Clemons. In usual form, Pearlman takes you through Clemons' life and tries to get to the bottom of the question: Why is this guy such an arrogant prick? The accomplishments, which are truly astounding, are quite overshadowed by Clemons' attitude and treatment of others. The inevitable fall, in this case, is precipitated by steroid use and Roger's inability to find any fault in himself. All fascinating stuff. I'll have to admit that this is not my favorite Pearlman offering. It's not the writing, but the subject matter. Maybe I'm just tired of steroids, or cheaters, or multi-millionaires with "poor-pitiful-me" attitudes. Or maybe it was the fact that this was the first book I've read using the new Kindle application for my i-phone and I got a bit of eye strain. Anyway, this is a solid effort by a solid investigative journalist and if you are a baseball fan and have any interest in the Clemons story, you will probably enjoy it
