A Brief History of Nearly Everything,  Bill Bryson                                                      *****

This book is about 4 years old, it's kinda long, it has a lot of stuff about theoretical physics, and I just finished reading it for the second time.  Admittedly, I'd read Fun with Dick and Jane if Bryson wrote it, but I have to say that this book is right up my alley. Think of it as a "History of Science" book, with particular attention paid to the scientists themselves, covering everything from Astronomy to Zoology, with a little humor thrown in.  Seriously, Bryson makes even confusing topics like quantum theory enjoyable (though if you are looking for a deep understanding of any particular topic, this is not the place).
I'd recommend this for anyone over the age of about 14. Actually I'd recommend it for everyone over the age of 14.  Considering Americans' extreme lack of scientific knowledge, an enjoyable science book is just the ticket.  If you've never really read much scientific literature, this is a great place to start.  If you are a science nut like me, you will absolutely love this book.
